At the time of its inception in 2018, Chipper Cash was offering free virtual cards to customers. In 2019, I heard about the fintech company and I created my account. I ordered both naira card and dollar on the platform and both virtual cards are for free.
But in 2024, something happened that my dollar card got deactivated due to multiple unsuccessful transactions. Here’s what they say happened: “Your card has accumulated multiple declined transactions due to insufficient funds. Secondly, Chipper Cash gets charged fees by our partners and third party providers for every declined transaction.”
When this happened, my card got deactivated and when I needed to purchase my brand domain, temmysamuel.com from Namecheap again, I requested for a new dollar card. At that time, I was charged $3, a card issuance/creation fee.
Then, I was issued a new virtual visa dollar card with new card details. However, I noticed that the new card expiry date is very near compared to my old dollar card.
I requested the new card with $3 in 2024, and it will expire same date in 2025. Just one year (12 months) interval(s). However, my old dollar card was issued with 4 years usage.
This simply shows that Chipper Cash is now passively making money with it offerings of virtual cards. Meanwhile, I don’t know whether card creation fee is now apply to naira virtual card too.
